Taking a break
For anyone who may have been following this blog, I'm going to take a break for a while. It will take some effort to make this blog into what I would like for it to be. I would like to re-start it in time for the Christian Home Educators of Ohio convention Jun 25-27, 2009, so check back around that time.
Thank you for your interest and maybe I will meet some of you at the CHEO convention.
Until then feel free to e-mail me at rduncan1@falcon1.net.

Elements of the Day: Hydrogen and Oxygen
Book Review: The Homeschool Advocate
So far there have been only a few book reviews of Elements of Faith on-line. Here is one of them. I believe it is a popular website among homeschool families.
"It is refreshing finally to see a chemistry book that is perfect for late elementary and junior high school age students!
"Starting with Hydrogen, author Richard Duncan features the following for each element: Data (interesting facts about the element), Analysis (history and educational information about the element), Reaction (Biblical reference to the element), Quick Quiz, and Response (final thoughts and/or a short prayer). Volume 1 covers Hydrogen to Tin.
"Parents and students alike will find the material in this book so intriguing that it will be difficult to put it down!"

Element of the Day: Silicon
Silicon: "As the sand on the seashore"
"I will multiply your descendants…as the sand is on the seashore…" God, to Abraham, in Genesis 22:17
God promised Abraham that his decendants would be numerous as sand. And, like sand, we come in all colors, from the sparkling white beaches of Costa Rica... to the beautiful, black sands of Tahiti...and every shade in between.
Paul said that by faith, "Abraham…is the father of us all." (Romans 4:17)

Nehemiah: The King's Cupbearer
"O Lord, I pray, please let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant, and to the prayer of Your servants who desire to fear Your name; and let Your servant prosper this day, I pray, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man." For I was the king's cupbearer. (Nehemiah 1:11)
Nehemiah was the cubearer of the King. It was his job to taste the King's wine and test his meals to protect the King from being poisoned. In this position, Nehemiah became a tructed advisor.
Due to Nehemiah's faithful and prayerful performanance of his duties, God was able to use him to bring about the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem.
Are you performing your job faithfully?

Element of the Day: Beryllium
Beryl: A Beautiful, Bright Jewel
"I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, a certain man clothed in linen, whose waist was girded with gold of Uphaz! His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like torches of fire…" Daniel 10:5.6
When Daniel had an intense vision of God, he passed out. When he awoke he described what he saw in terms of the most brilliant things he knew: gold, fire, lightning, and the dazzling gem, beryl!
Beryl is the primary ore for the production of beryllium.

Marty Parker: Master of Motivation
For any readers who don't already know this, I am no expert at blogging. So I will be trying new things as I go along. In this post I will try to embed a cool video from Marty Parker's website (http://www.lifelearningdevices.com/).
Those of you who were at the Midwest Homeschool Convention, April 16-18, and met Marty, know that he is a high energy guy who created the Life Learning Device, a cool gadget everyone should have at least one of. I call Marty the "Master of Motivation" because of his great, positive attitude and approach to life. He even motivated me to ride a mechanical bull friday night, but that's a story for another post.
Anyway please enjoy the following:
